The 34th birthday of Ermias Tha Great: šŸ’™

@NipseyHussleProlific

As the smoke continues to clear after the gut wrenching news about Nipsey Hussle's murder, we are all still trying to pick up the baton that he was forced to put down and continue 'The Marathon'. On August15th, 2019 Nipsey would have been 34 years old. In honor of his legacy I wanted to share a few of the most important lessons I've learned from Nipsey.

The 3 P's of Nipsey's Legacy

1. Patience

Today we live in a very instant gratification culture, especially with rise of social media, and constant examples of "overnight successes". However, Nipsey was not apart of this culture, his enlightenment took time which then later led to his success. In a Hot 97 interview he spoke about his life changing trip to Africa at 18 years old. During that trip he realized that there is a life outside the LA gang culture he was surrounded by and eventually embraced. He shares how his experiences with his fathers side of the family led to his ability to have structure and discipline. He shares how meaningful that trip was to him and how it propelled him into the turning point of his life. Nipsey dropped his first project in 2010 called: The Marathon. His final and last album was released in 2018 called: Victory Lap; it was almost a decade between his first body of work and last. The patience and determination that Nipsey encompassed was admirable. In order to grow, its imperative that we make mistakes and turn losses into lessons. And although the hold up might be bitter, that moment of "making it" taste so much sweeter.

2. Perseverance

We will never know the details of what Nipsey went through in his life. But what we do know is that being a black man in America automatically puts you in harms way. Black skin is a threat. The combination of that and being born in LA, mixed up into the gang culture is a recipe for disaster. In his music and his interviews Nipsey speaks about the struggle of making it out of that life. Even when he did make it out, he never forgot who he was and never left his people behind. He opened his own store called The Marathon and made sure to employ black and brown people of his community. Nipsey made moves with every intention to better his community as a whole. He stressed how important it is to have a business mindset, and the importance of ownership and investments. As he simultaneously prioritized positivity and spirituality.

3. Power

Now let's get into why I've crowned Nipsey the Leo legend. In astrology Leo's symbolize strength and power. Leos are represented by lions, they are very fiery and intense about everything they do, especially when its in regards to their passions. Leo's can take the reigns of any situations. They are natural born leaders and creatives. Nipsey exuded so much power and his presence demanded attention in every room. As a result, in his interviews you can hear a pencil drop, that was literally how quiet each person was while hanging onto his every word. It also translated into his music and environment, quickly earning the respect of the top hip-hop icons in the game like Diddy and Jay-Z, but more importantly everyday people like you and me. As a community it is crucial that we honor Nipsey's legacy by implementing all the positive strategies, concepts, and lessons that he preached about. At 34 years of age Nipsey left his mark on this world, his knowledge and wisdom will continue to be sorted after. The powerful Leo Legend will live on.
